Project Description
The German Apsara Conservation Project was inaugurated in 1997 following 2 years of preliminary research and is aimed at documentation and conservation of the carved stone surfaces at Angkor Wat, possibly the most famous of the Khmer Temples in Cambodia, that was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1992.
Organised by the University of Applied Sciences Cologne and funded by the Foreign Office of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany the project continues to develop innovatory methods and techniques for the documentation and conservation of the carved surfaces at Angkor and to pass the information on to the students not only from the University in Cologne but also from the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh and local staff.
This presentation is concerned with the developments in the field of the mapping and documentations used in the project.
