The Kingdom of Khmer is the birthplace of the Khmer civilisation which ruled in the region for some 500 years during which it generated some of the most extraordinary art and architecture in SE Asia.
At the heart of the empire lay the city of Angkor Thom and the Temple of Angkor Wat. The decline of the empire left the forest to take over all but the Angkor Wat which remained a religious centre through the centuries.
The French colonists began work there early in the 20th century but following a series of tragic conflicts work was only resumed in the 1980s. There are now many bilateral projects working there with the national authorities and this project is proud to make up part of that community.
