First Steps
The documentation of such a large quantity of carved surfaces required a very pragmatic approach and the first steps were therefore :
- The photographic documentation of all the carved elements.
- The numbering and coding of all the elements in order to place them on a map.
- The classification of the level of risk for each element rather the level of decay so as to facilitate the planning of a conservation operation.
- The definition of a documentation key that would list all the information to be mapped and give it a colour code.
- The sub-division of this information into groups.
